We need to put down about 1” – 1¼” of water per week in
New England to make up for what is lost due to plant use and evaporation.
In the table rotary heads need to run for about 5 hours
a week to achieve 1¼” of water.
(.26in/hr x 5hrs/wk=1.25)
While spray heads need to only run for 48 minutes
per week to achieve the same amount
of water.
(2in/hr(60min) / 48 min = 1.25”)
If you ran the spray heads for 5 hours a week you would
end up with 10” of water.
Or if you ran the rotary heads for 48 minutes a week you would end up with
less than a ¼” of water on the lawn.
BEWARE… this is done all the time by
installers to cut corners because you don’t know the difference.
