There are week long
seminars, even longer actually, devoted to irrigation scheduling. I will try to
put it in easy to understand generalized terms for you.
In the northeast we use about 1” – 1¼”of water per week with
loamy soil. The water used in two ways.

Evaporation
- Therefore
we need to replace about 1” – 1¼” of water per week.
- Rotary sprinklers apply about
.25” (that’s point two five) of water in 1 hour. To achieve 1¼” of water they
would need to run 5 hours per week. Divided by 7 days a week. Equals about
42.85 minutes per day. Call it 40 miuntes
- Spray type sprinklers
apply about 1.5” of water in 1 hour. To achieve 1” of water spray heads
don’t even need to run for a full hour per week. 60 minutes divided by 1.5”
equals 40 total minutes divided by 7 days equals 6 minuts (rounded)
