Landscape Lighting; Expanding Your Night Time Living Area

As the days get shorter and icy weather starts now is a good time to think about the safety and security of your walkways and paths. Not to mention that landscape lighting looks great. Earlier this year in our spring newsletter we introduce our expansion into landscape lighting. The response was terrific. We have installed numerous lighting systems from the very basic to the exquisite. We expect landscape lighting to grow even more as time passes.

Wintertime is my favorite time of year for lighting a landscape. The leafless trees take on new shapes, and light shines to the top branches, snow melts into a cone surrounding light fixtures and that icy path gets a little safer.

How many of you invest a lot of money and/or time into your landscape and only get to see it on the weekends?  Monday morning it’s off to work and, by the time you get home, maybe it’s dark and all those beautiful flowers are hiding in the black of night. A professionally installed landscape lighting system can enhance your outdoor living area and let you enjoy your landscape after the sunsets.

A patio area could be your nighttime paradise if it were not for those big 150-watt spot lights getting in your eyes making you see spots of red and green. In professionally installed landscape lighting, the effect is seen not the source. Landscape lighting provides an ambience that your guests will always remember. Proper path lighting helps you navigate that tricky path or icy walkway in the dark of night. Uplighting your home is a big deterrent for the would-be burglar. And it looks great!

A professionally installed landscape lighting system is not one of those kits that you get at the super home centers. It is a component system that is custom designed using halogen lamps and top quality fixtures. Compare it to buying a boom box just to play a cassette or buying a home stereo system with a tuner, CD-player, cassette deck and speakers. They both play the tape, but the home entertainment system’s quality is superior.

Landscape lighting is safe and economical using low voltage high output technology.  We use 60% less electricity than conventional high voltage and have just as much power. Think of this. All the lights in your car are low voltage lights, from the dimmest lights on your dashboard to the super powerful high beams. We can use this technology and everything in between.  Because we use UL approved transformers, it is safe for outdoors, even wet locations. You wouldn’t try that with high voltage!

I have been designing and teaching landscape lighting concepts for over 13 years and now RJ McGrath, Inc. has created a landscape lighting division offering complete landscape lighting services including design, installation and maintenance.

Give us a call. We can set up an actual lighting demonstration system at your home. No obligation and no cost for the demo. We bring out about 10—12 lights to let you get an idea of what this type of lighting can do for you.
